PURPOSE and MISSION

United Methodist Women is a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Our MISSION is to turn faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth.

MISSION INITIATIVES

The entire program and organization of United Methodist Women focuses on mission. Our mission initiatives include:

  • Providing opportunities to grow spiritually
  • Equipping women & girls to be leaders
  • Providing transformative educational experiences
  • Organizing for growth & flexibility
  • Working for justice through service & advocacy

HOW WE SERVE

Financial support and time commitment to local and international charitable organizations including:  National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI)of Washtenaw County, Saline Area Social Services, Ele’s Place, Safe House, Ozone House, Food Gatherers, Comfort Cases, UMCOR Covid 19 Relief, and Gift of Hope.

Congregational and community support:  Loving Hands Ministry providing meals in times of need and funeral luncheons.

Fundraising:  In addition to member pledges and congregational support, the UMW sponsors an assortment of funding raising activities throughout the year.  These have included lasagna dinners, cinnamon roll sales, Souper Bowl Sunday, and pie auctions.  The UMW also collects donations  of socks, toiletries, diapers and other items which are distributed persons in need or EVH residents.

HOW WE GROW

Saline United Methodist Women are part of the worldwide UMW parent organization.  Locally we are organized in small group Circles providing the perfect opportunity to support one another and build lasting friendships.  Each Circle meets monthly and sets their own agenda.  Activities may include sharing a lunch together, volunteering, or service projects.  Occasionally a circle may have a guest speaker or take a field trip to a local charity organization.

The Reading Program developed by the parent UMW organization offers a wide assortment of educational books that Circles can read together.  This is a cherished tradition that brings members together to share, discuss, and pray about important social and spiritual issues facing our world today.
